Today we have Soki Bryant from CrossFit, saguaro, and we are, we’re good friends with these guys at CrossFit. They take good care of us. They take great care of our patients. there may be times when we’re not sure who to trust or where to go for fitness or health information. Because of that, we like to bring in people that we know we’re going to do a good job that are going to take really good care of you and, have an opportunity to make your, yourself and your family as healthy as possible.
So we have Soki from CrossFit and I’m so thankful you are on with us . So Soki, I want to welcome. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Yeah. and I think I just like for you to tell us how things are going right now, maybe give us some info about your office. What do you do?
Who do you serve the best? Yeah. So CrossFit Saguaro here in, Marana Tucson area. so the Northwest side of Tucson and, we are a family oriented, functional fitness community, where literally anybody can come into our facility and, get in the best shape of their lives.
And yeah. My wife and I Vanessa owned the facility and we have some phenomenal trainers as well. And we built a great community here, especially during a time of a COVID. It could be challenging to find a place where you can feel comfortable, feel safe, with different protocols in place.
Our community has stepped up to the plate and doing well in that and just making sure that we still want to be healthy and we want to keep other people healthy and safe while we’re doing that. Yeah, that’s great. So now, when COVID came down, there’s a whole lot of question and worry when it comes to.
To gyms and workout facilities and what we do or should we go, or should we not go? tell me about what is it that you guys are doing that will help, help people to feel safe in knowing that it’s okay for them to go there and work out? Yeah, for us. in order to come into the facility, you must wear a mask.
So we do require that, and we know that’s like a, a statewide or even, nationally wise. we require you to come in w wearing your face mask and, come in, then you’re going to also wash your hands. Each person comes in and washes their hands. we only allow a minimum, or excuse me, a maximum of seven spots in training for per, group classes.
So it allows a good amount of space for each individual to have social distance. And, again, every person coming in before they even get to a space they’re washing their hands, they’ll get to their space. And then at that point, go ahead and, making sure that you’re just social distance. most of the equipment’s already into any in your space, so you won’t even have to move outside of that space.
And then you’ll be in there until the duration of your class. if there’s any operation that need to, or movement that needs to take place, what we do is we just require each person to go one at a time to whether it’s grabbing new equipment or, things that I need to use the restroom. and then we also have a requirement of, we make sure that the equipment is sanitized prior.
To you coming. And then also after you leave, you yourself will sanitize it. And then also the trainers will make sure. That other areas are sanitized as well. Now, once we’re individuals leads, we always recommend and tell them, make sure that you wash your hands again prior to leaving or using hand sanitizer as you leave the facility.
Yeah, that’s excellent. So you pretty much, it sounds like you have every part of this process figured out as far as what people walk in for their time that they’re there in the gym when they leave their spot. And so everyone has a spot that’s distanced away from. From the other people there in the gym, it sounds Yes. Correct. Yep. That’s great. That’s correct. That is correct. And we’ve got it. We’ve got it marked off on the floor, taped off on the floor. and so you’re going to have some distance between each, each person. Yeah, that’s great. So tell me about how, because I recommend a lot of people experience CrossFit, but something that I hear, and this might’ve even been something that I didn’t realize for a while was that.
Anyone can do CrossFit, but a lot of people think it’s really only for those super fit, super buff, super strong people. That those are the only ones that are able to really benefit from CrossFitter to be able to do it without killing themselves. What do you have to say? What do you have to say to that?
Yeah. that is many times their perception, is that this gotta be for a lot of ’em. the strong or the, experience ones. but, as quite the opposite is in fact, CrossFit is truly for absolutely everyone and anyone, and a majority of the people inside our studio and inside our gym.
I want to be normal day to day. The people who work a job where families who’s married, maybe single, maybe they have kids. It’s a normal people who just come in to be, to live a healthy life, and, and enjoy their lives outside of the gym. And I’ll give an example, is that, my wife, she never did any kind of fitness, at all until after having our first child.
And that was, when she was 29 years old, she started working out for the first time and, did nothing else prior to that. And so just wanted to get in shape and now, 10, 1212 years later, 10, 11 years later, rather. she’s doing, she loves it. fan does fantastic at it and it’s just the day-to-day thing.
And that’s always been her thing it’s so it doesn’t really matter who you are because all we’re doing in here is squatting. Which everyone has to squat. Cause you gotta sit down somewhere, where we’re picking stuff up, dead lifting. And so which everyone has to pick something up off the floor, whether you dropped your wallet or your phone or your keys and you gotta go down and pick them up, and we’re pressing, putting stuff up in the cabinets.
Everybody’s more than likely putting something on a shelf or in a cabinet or hanging up some clothes or putting our shoes on a rack, or maybe we’re at the grocery store. We’re trying to reach for something that’s all that we’re doing. And we’re just taking it at a different component out of that element of just, of being at home we’re using, maybe lighter weight, moderate weight, or maybe it’s just body weight, no weights at all.
So every day is different and every day, every workout varies, but it’s definitely, absolutely for every single individual. That’s fantastic. Now you’re gonna have to be careful. I think you might’ve just told us how old your wife is dangerous. That’s dangerous. That is. I’m going to pretend that I didn’t hear that.
Which it doesn’t matter to me. You guys are a whole lot younger than I am, so that’s pretty fantastic, but Hey, that’s so that’s really good. So what you’re saying is that you’re teaching people not only, you’re not just teaching people how to throw weights around, but how to become better at the normal everyday things that people are.
Already doing on a regular basis, it sounds like, right? Yes. Yes. Yes. In fact, we have another story of another young lady in our gym and, she’s in her forties, I believe, late forties. And, she said, ever since she started doing. CrossFit and working out with us here, and it’s only been about a month and a half, and she said everything at home has gotten better.
She said, it’s easier for me to take. She says, I noticed sounds small and I may sound silly telling you this, but just carrying my basket of clothing of the clothing basket. Down the stairs was so much easier than it’s ever been before. me playing with my kids, I have more energy than I had before.
So those are the stories that actually we love to hear, because those are the things that matter. Those are the things, it is great to have a person who. Perhaps want to go to the Olympics and compete and do great things of that nature, which is also awesome and fantastic things, but that’s very slim and very few, less than 1% of the people, that we’ll ever encounter.
and so majority of us, it just wants to live a better life, whether you want to feel good, look good. That’s just some basic things. And those are the things that we look forward to seeing. If people is, how do we build better quality of life? For the, for you and whatever that may look like. And if it’s you taking out your trash or playing with your kids, that’s going to help you live better.
We want to help you with that. If it’s you saying, Hey, I want to play a new, maybe I do want to play some kind of high level sport. We can help you with that too, as well. That’s great. That’s great. so we don’t want to leave that out. So we are talking about how great CrossFit can be for the regular person, just trying to get healthier, just trying to move better.
but there still is that component. if you have some real high level athletes, they can also use CrossFit in order to have a fully better. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. That’s cool. Very cool. so right now, a question that I have we’re at a time where a lot of people have maybe shied away from the gym or the CrossFit boxes or other places.
People have shied away from that, and they’re working out at home. what would be the benefit of what you have to offer? over my home workout with the weights in the garage. I tell you that there’s always going to be a component of having first off a trainer in front of you and not just the trainer in front of you by maybe even video, but someone that’s there live and in person, that is going to be such a, just unique and great in it of itself.
Because now you have someone who’s watching. Your every move who is making sure that you’re doing things proper. And then also not only are you doing things proper, but are you getting in achieving the intended stimulus of a workout? So there’s many different workouts and, but what are we trying to accomplish in the workout?
Most of you don’t even think about what are we trying to accomplish in this workout is I just want to move my body and that’s cool. We can just move our bodies, but what do we want to really accomplish during this moving our bodies to as well? What is that what goal and with having one of our trainers, us and, there, with you and in front of you.
Allows us to go ahead and tailor each workout and movement, according to what you’re able to do. That’s one, number two, also get you into the intended stimulus of that workout for what you’re looking for your goals and for your body. and that is one of the biggest things is like when you have a trainer and having that right in front of you have someone right in front of you to make sure again, that you’re safe, that you move in well, and then that you are achieving the intended stimulus of the workout.
That is fantastic. And that’s a whole lot of stuff that a lot of times we’re not able to do on our own when we’re at home. We have no idea, really what the intended stimuli, the intended stimulus of the intended benefit of the workout. We just go, we do stuff because we think, we think those things are going to be, good for us.
so that’s good. All right. Do you have before I let you go here, do you have anything else that, that you want to say to our patients and our community that, that you haven’t been able to say? Yeah, I will say this is that, The best way to build a, one of the best ways of building a better life is that we all need to move in some way, shape, form, or fashion in some capacity, we have to move our bodies.
and so how do we accomplish that? the, one of the things that we can say is that is, and everyone’s going to be very indifferent and what you enjoy in terms of working out, give us a try. Come see what CrossFit can offer you. If it’s not for you, then you know, you go. And find something that’s going to fit your needs and your desires and what you’re looking for.
But we’re going to be ones that to be focused on you as the individual and how you move and move effectively. And to be able to have you leave here with knowing, Hey, I got a great workout in, I was safe. I feel like I was effective. and, and I didn’t hurt myself. Yeah, that’s big. That’s big because that’s also another misconception that some people have with CrossFit that maybe they could hurt themselves working out.
But honestly, you probably hurt yourself with any workout, but having someone right there with you, guiding you and leading you through that process is going to make that situation so much safer for. For any of you that are watching this video? My recommendation for you is that you definitely give CrossFit a shot.
and you don’t have to worry about how old you are. You don’t have to worry about how fit you are today or not. You don’t have to worry about whether you’re going to hurt yourself or not. There’s two things. One, these guys do such a good job of tailoring your workout for you. Okay. And so as they’re tailoring your workout for you, it’s going to be safe.
It’s going to be the most effective thing that you can possibly do for yourself. And they do such a good job of that. and so then that means it doesn’t really matter. What level of health, what level of fitness that you’re in. they can help you, so much. So it definitely is something that I, that I recommend, If Saki, if someone wants to get ahold of you, if they’re thinking I want an appointment, at CrossFit, I want to go in there and I want to see, what this does for me.
I want to start a program today. What’s the way that they would do that. What’d you gonna want to do is you can go straight to our website at CrossFit. S a G U a R o.com. So that’s CrossFit.
